From My 7-year-old Daughter's Bookshelf // Resources for cultivating a life of Faith at the Early Reader stage

Thursday, July 23, 2015

I wanted to share some faith walk resources that my 7-year-old daughter is enjoying right now. I love this age. She asks great questions! She loves to read and look things up and just enjoys learning.

She is a rising second grader but I would say these books are great for any girl between the ages of 7 and 12.

1 // Thoughts to Make Your Heart Sing by Sally Lloyd-Jones & Jago

A collection of short but profound thoughts on faith and God's plan for the world. And the illustrations are so beautiful!

2 // Adventure Bible for Early Readers (NiRV translation)

We love this bible! Right now, she is learning how to look up a verse. I sometimes forget how intimidating it can be to be given a verse and then have to hunt it down. So we're practicing finding the book, then the chapter, then the verse. And this translation is easy for beginning readers and beginning believers to understand.

3 // Brave Girls, Faithful Friends 90-day Devotional

This is such a cute little devotional. It specifically speaks to those early years of navigating friendships and handling all kinds of social interactions with grace and perspective. Ashley enjoys reading one of these each morning.

4 // God Loves Me, Daily Devotions for A Girl's Heart

This is another fantastic devotional written specifically for young girls. I would say this one gears more toward the later elementary or early middle school years. But we still enjoy this one because it initiates some great conversations between she and I.

Resources for cultivating a life of Faith at the Early Reader stage

What are some of your favorite books or resources? I would love to hear!

  1. My kids are a little bit younger (5 and 2) but we're really loving the Little Blessings One Year of Devotions for Preschoolers and the Jesus Storybook Bible by Sally-Lloyd Jones & Jago.

  2. iOS 10 improves and adds upon user experience system-wide including 3D Touch expansion, an updated lock screen, and "widget" support. for More info about iOS 10 go to CydiaNerd.
