Playlist // "Grieve"
Wednesday, April 15, 2015
Something I did within the first few days of receiving the news that my Father had passed away was create a playlist. Music is incredibly powerful. It has the ability to soothe and heal. Have you ever sang a soft lullaby to a restless baby? It works like a charm. And I recently created a photo slideshow that was awfully sweet, but when I added some background music and then watched it again, it induced the ugly cry.
Music sets a tone. And I find that when I listen to music that mirrors my emotions, I can get lost in that and find comfort. I remember a particularly painful season of life in my early twenties when I would fall asleep with my headphones on listening to worship music every night because it was the only way I could find relief from the anxiety and sadness.
I created this playlist I call "Grieve" because it's one I can listen to when I just want to sit with my emotions and cry if I want. Some songs are meant to uplift, but honestly some of them are just meant to give me permission to sit in the sadness. Grief has stages and I don't care to rush any of them.
If you have lost someone you love, or are struggling with a great sadness right now, I hope this brings you even a tiny bit of comfort. And if you would like prayer, I would be honored to pray for you during this hard season. Email me at sheiswoven[at]gmail[dot]com and let me know how I can pray for you.
I'm sharing a bit more about the journey I've been on since losing my Dad over at Thrive Moms today. Click here to read the guest post.
