Playlist // The 'I Miss the 90's' Mix
Tuesday, September 2, 2014
Hubby and I are both in our mid-thirties. Which means that we spent our entire high school and college years in the 90's. Which means we share a deep love of 90's music (my favorite decade!) Whenever we have a date night, we get in the car, turn on the 90's on 9 station on XM radio, roll down the windows, and proceed to sing every word to every song at the top of our lungs.
I made you a dope (yes, I said dope) 90's playlist with some of my absolute favorites. Every single one of these songs has a meaning to me. Some of them remind me being 16 and carefree and first getting my drivers license. Oh the fun I had driving around in my little blue Ford Escort blasting Mariah Carey and meeting my friends at the mall. Or summers spent taking joy rides on the back roads of my little hometown and falling in love with country music.
Some of the songs remind me of specific high school dances. Or senior beach week. Or cheerleading/dance routines. Some bring me right back to laying on the floor in my bedroom and staring at my 90210 poster of Luke Perry. Others make me think of my first few weeks at Virginia Tech, making friends and feeling so grown up. Ohhhhh the joy of joining the Columbia House CD club where you could get 12 CD's for the price of 1. And later, ohhhh the thrill of illegally downloading mp3's from Napster. And I can't even begin to explain to you how truly, madly, deeply I was in love with Dave Matthews between the years of 1997 and 2000. That was during my "I want to marry a musician someday" phase.
I love how music can forever freeze a season of your life. The moment you hear a song, you are taken right back to a moment. A memory. A feeling. What a gift.
Hope you enjoy this mix as much as me and the 16-year-old version of myself do.
