We went home to my hometown in Virginia this weekend for our annual Family Summer Picnic. My Mom picks a different food theme each year and this time it was all you can eat Crab Legs & Shrimp! Let's just say we all fell into a deep food coma immediately after devouring more seafood than you can even imagine. The Cochran's can eat some crab legs! It's been a tradition in our family since I was a little girl.
Unfortunately it started raining pretty hard in the middle of our picnic and we had to move everything inside. So because of that, plus the fact that my fingers were covered in Old Bay seasoning and melted butter for several hours, I failed to get many of the photos I had planned. But I did grab a few of the fun things my Mom had set up for the kids including a Sand table, a bubble station, play dough, water gun target practice, a cooler full of beer and orange soda, and tons of yummy snacks. It was straight out of Pinterest y'all.
I swear it was just yesterday that my sisters and I were either pregnant or chasing crawling babies and toddlers. But this summer, six children later, everyone is more self-sufficient than ever before. On one hand I'm sad there are no more babies. But on the other hand, it was so nice to tell them to grab their own drink or snack and know they could entertain themselves. And I loved watching them join right in at the adult table as crab legs were piling up and we could barely crack them open fast enough to satisfy the demand of little hands and mouths.
Summer - you're going too fast! Slow down. I am savoring every moment.
