Evidence they were here

Wednesday, April 2, 2014

I recently found this blog where a group of photographers document evidence that their children were here.... a sippy cup on the table, a toy on the stairs, crayon scribbles on the walls.  I just loved the concept. I have so much evidence of this in my home and I don't ever want to take that for granted.  The trails they leave behind mean they are living, breathing heartbeats of this home. I couldn't help but take extra notice of it this week.

My favorite are half-eaten strawberries left on the chairs that I like to sit on.

I wanted to look beyond the messes.  Yes, my son's room looks like a tornado hit it.  But that's kind of the obvious stuff.  I wanted to look for the evidence of their little personalities and what is important to them.  That basketball cup is Dillon's favorite.  That note that Ashley wrote is SO HER. She leaves notes from her heart like this all the time.  I may have to document this again next month.  It says a lot about who they are at this moment in time.

  1. I love the monster trucks and the strawberry! What a great idea to look for something artistic in the little "messes" that kids leave around a house.

    1. Thanks Emily! It was really fun to notice the little things this week. And instead of grumbling about the half-eaten strawberry, it just made me smile. :)

  3. I agree with Amy, I love this idea! I was just thinking that about my bathtub full of those foam cut-outs that stick on the walls - I love that my baby girl had a bath tonight, because I'm so glad she's here. Even if I step on her toys in the morning for my shower.

  6. I love this....and without a photograph, the first think I think of is the 4-5 sets of cleats in the mud room for the various sports the kids play....they drive me nuts full of mud and clutter, but reading this it make me apprecite that 'they are here'...I think i will look at that 'kid clutter' in a much different way now (before I yell at them to clean it up ;)

    1. haha YES! Before I got mad at Dillon for leaving a half eaten strawberry on my chair, I had to remember that I'd rather him make a mess in my house than not have him at all! Muddy cleats are a great example. :) MISS YOU!
