Mother/Daughter Weekend

Thursday, April 4, 2013

Husband and I have always made it a priority to spend one-on-one time with each of our children.  And a few weeks ago, Sister and I got to spend an entire weekend together...just the two of us.  It was incredible.  And so life-giving.  We like to do the same things, she and I, so it was easy to plan our activities.  Shopping, eating and seeing a show!

We only had to drive an hour away to reach our destination of Lancaster, PA where there are tons of antique stores and outlet shopping, as well as one of the most amazing theater productions I've ever seen - Sight & Sound Theaters.  I love that this theater is dedicated to making the Bible come to life.  Just read their mission!  We saw 'Noah' and was truly blown away.  They even had live animals throughout the whole show.  Sister was in awe.

Other special moments included picking out a new baby at the most charming Doll Store you've ever seen, buying matching mother/daughter summer dresses (oh yes we did), and discussing the show over a plate of sushi.  I felt like she was 5 going on 15.

To top it off, we stayed overnight in a hotel despite being fairly close to home.  Just because.

I can't tell you how beautiful this time away was for me.  I could listen to her with my whole mind and spirit.  I could watch her eyes fill with wonder as she watched the story of Noah come to life.  I could get giddy with her as we found a knick knack she fell in love with at the antique store.  Just being together, without interruption was such a gift.

I urge you to find some time, even if it's just a few hours, to focus on someone you love this week.

  3. This is so precious. Cherish that time. Now that I'm older, I cherish those memories with my mom. She'll still want to do those things at 15. ;)

  4. I love seeing everything you guys are up to - esp watching those [too] cute kiddos grow up via pictures! I remember when Sister was so little when you were at LT. It just amazes me to see what a sweet, loving and beautiful little girl shes turning into! And by the way, you're looking amazing as ever!
